“The Birthday Suits are insane! They’re like a tasty antidote for boredom and putrid performances, but beware; you may find yourself in a helix of addiction from attending one of their shows. This pop/punk-garage/drum and bass duo of Minneapolis has the potential to force even non-epileptics into a state of seize, or, depending on how much you find pleasure in zany stage antics, one might simply refer to the experience as exhilarating. Really, that can be left for interpretation. Matthew (drums and vox) and Hideo (guitar and vox) are basically one of the best live acts to come out of the Minneapolis area. Aside from making great music and having an eccentric stage presence, they are very personable. You know musicians love what they’re doing when they hang out and chat with the patrons of a venue before and after a show. There are a lot of national acts that stray from that sort of exposure. The Birthday Suits kick that cliché straight in the face.
After a quick tour through Madison, as they usually do every other month or so, they took the show promoting their new release “The Minnesota: Mouth to Mouth” to Chicago, Phillie, Pittsburg, New York, Boston, Toronto, Montreal, Detroit, and many other locations. They’ll be in Milwaukee at The Sugar Maple this Wednesday evening to wrap up their May/June tour with The Blind Shake. Their homecoming gig in Minneapolis is on the 19th and will be held at Triple Rock. There is also a rumor that they will be coming back to Madison sometime this month to play at Machinery Row Bicycles on Willie Street. That may sound odd being that the venue is a bik shop, but I’m sure it’ll be an entertaining time as always. Hopefully Matthew can use some of the bike parts as percussion and Hideo can kick and throw some bikes around. If you get a chance to catch these guys, you shouldn’t procrastinate. They’re sure blow your mind and leave you partially lobotomized for a bit.”
